(Cleveland) Star running back Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns will undergo surgery on his left knee following the horrific injury he suffered that ended his season Monday night in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Four times elected to the Pro Bowl in six seasons, Chubb was injured when he was the victim of a low tackle by safety Minkah Fitzpatrick during a rush in the second quarter. On impact, the knee literally gave way.
In 2015, while playing with the University of Georgia, Chubb suffered an injury that required reconstruction of the same knee.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Tuesday that Chubb’s season is over. Stefanski did not specify the severity of the injury or the date of the upcoming operation.
Stefanski said he was very disappointed for Chubb, a player he considers very important to the entire organization, but he expects to see him bounce back.
Chubb, 27, left the field in a cart and was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital for precautionary purposes. He was discharged and returned to Cleveland to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging scan.
The Browns (1-1) must now regroup and move forward without one of their best players. Quiet and modest, Chubb is possibly the most respected player on the Browns. His work ethic and serious attitude are examples to follow within the team.
After Chubb’s injury, quarterback Deshaun Watson and the Browns offense struggled for large segments of the game en route to a 26-22 loss. It was the Browns’ 20th straight regular-season loss in Pittsburgh.
