(Fukuoka) Canada’s Mia Vallée and Pamela Ware finished fifth in the women’s 3-meter synchro final at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan on Monday.

Vallée and Ware collected a total of 284.22 points for their diving and finished just 1.77 points from the bronze medal, won by Italians Chiara Pellacani and Elena Bertocchi (285.99). Americans Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook (285.39) were also in contention.

China’s Yani Chang and Yiwen Chen had no trouble securing the title of world champions, after amassing a total of 341.94. The silver medal went to Britons Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper, who were far behind at 296.58 points.

China also won the men’s 10-metre synchro event, in which no Canadians competed.

“Honestly, I’m really happy with what we did today (Monday), Ware said. Of course, it’s not the result we wanted, but I’m really proud of Mia. We persevered throughout the competition. It shows that we have more work to put into our team and we are ready to do it. »

Vallée agreed, adding that she could have been a little more precise in her individual technique.

“I’m happy with the way we dived, but a judged sport is that: you don’t always get the results you want. Plus, we were so close to third place. For my part, I did not have the scores that I wanted, but despite that, we were close (to the podium), ”she observed.

The two divers will take a one-day break before resuming training for the individual 3-meter preliminaries.

Canada’s Caeli McKay and Elaena Dick will be in action in the women’s 10-metre preliminaries on Tuesday.
