(Scottsdale) The Arizona Coyotes released forward Alex Galchenyuk on Thursday, less than two weeks after signing him to a one-year contract.
“The Arizona Coyotes have entered Alex Galchenyuk’s name on waivers in an effort to terminate his contract,” the team said in a statement. The club will not issue any further comment at this time. »
The Coyotes offered Galchenyuk a one-year contract worth US$775,000 when the NHL free agent market opened on July 1.
The 29-year-old scored 19 goals and 22 assists with the Coyotes in 2018-19, before returning with them in 2021-22. He then scored six goals and had 15 assists in 60 games.
Galchenyuk also played 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season, spending most of the year with their American Hockey League farm club.
Galchenyuk played for the Montreal Canadiens, Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Avalanche throughout his career on the Bettman Tour.
The American was selected in the first round, third overall, by the Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Draft. He played for the Habs from 2012 to 2018, before being traded to the Coyotes on June 15 2018 in return for striker Max Domi.
