Hot nights. The first episode of heat of the summer begins this weekend in France and few departments will escape it. Temperatures will rise a notch from Friday July 7, to reach their highest level on Sunday July 9, with a thermometer that will reach up to 37°C and the risk of a heat wave. Problem, the mercury will go down very little during the night, not allowing the floors and walls of our homes to cool down properly. Quoted by L’Indépendant, a meteorologist from Météo France explains: “From Saturday and especially at night, between Sunday and next Thursday, the night temperature will be very high, about 5 degrees above normal for the season”.

In its latest bulletin, the institute explains that “from Friday, the 30°C mark will generally be exceeded in France, except on the coast of Brittany and along the Channel”. Saturday July 8, “a drop in temperatures is expected in the northwestern regions but the heat will increase in the east”. On Sunday, “the heat should rise a notch further in the east of the country, with peaks at 35-36°C as far as Burgundy and Alsace”, adds Météo France, specifying that in the Rhône valley and the interior of Provence, the thermometer will be able to climb up to 37°C to 38°C.

Why are temperatures going to rise? The institute explains that “a vast depression will position itself on Friday over the Atlantic and bring very hot air up over France. Blocked by the high pressure ridge which is strengthening over France over the weekend, it will station several days off Ireland and keep the warm air supply over the south and east of the country. She should manage to slide east through the British Isles by mid-week, but the mass of hot air will resist over the south of France”. In around forty departments, it will be 20°C or more during the night from Sunday to Monday… Sometimes even up to 26°C! Find out which ones from the list below.
