(Paris) The young Russian Mirra Andreeva, 143rd player in the world who is playing her first Grand Slam tournament at the age of 16, stopped the Frenchwoman Diane Parry (79th) 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of Roland-Garros on Thursday.

For a place in the round of 16, Andreeva will face the finalist of the previous edition, the American Coco Gauff (6th), victorious over the Austrian Julia Grabher (61st) 6-2, 6-3.

The Russian teenager has not lost a single Porte d’Auteuil set, his three qualifying rounds included.

In the first round, she did not even need an hour to defeat American Alison Riske-Amritraj (85th) 6-2, 6-1. On the Simonne-Mathieu court on Thursday afternoon, she did not last too long (1 h 17 min).

“When I played the junior tournament at the Australian Open (in January, where she lost in the final, editor’s note), I was thinking of playing the junior tournament at Roland-Garros, but I managed to qualify ( for the ladies’ singles main draw) and now I’m going to play the third round here”, appreciates the young Russian, who “prefers watching TV series rather than doing her homework”.

Andreeva dreams very big. “Djokovic has 22 or 23 Grand Slams (22 since the Australian Open 2023, editor’s note), so I want to go up to 25, if possible,” she dares, full of carelessness.

Fourteen months ago, Andreeva was not yet ranked. And a year ago, she had reached the quarter-finals of the junior tournament on clay in Paris.

His qualification for the third round already guarantees him a place in the top 100 of the WTA world rankings at the end of Roland-Garros.
