No deal has yet been reached between Stellantis and Ottawa to rescue a $5 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor, Ont., the automaker said Thursday.
According to Stellantis spokeswoman LouAnn Gosselin, the manufacturer has not yet received an official response to the letters sent to the federal government.
Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said on Wednesday they were getting closer to a deal.
The federal government, Ontario, Stellantis and LG Energy Solution have been in intense negotiations for the past few weeks, since the companies suspended construction of their planned plant due to a dispute over federal subsidies.
Negotiations have been stuck between what Canada feels is fair and affordable and what the company thinks is its due.
Stellantis has threatened to move the Windsor plant if it doesn’t get what it says it was promised by the federal government in a February deal.
Minister Champagne said he made an offer similar to the one the federal government and Ontario made to Volkswagen for an electric vehicle battery plant in St. Thomas, Ontario.
This deal could be worth up to $13 billion over 10 years.
