Despite goals from James Malatesta and Nathan Gaucher, the Quebec Remparts lost 4-2 to the Peterborough Petes in the Memorial Cup.

William Rousseau blocked 25 shots for the Remparts, before Quentin Miller later turned aside seven.

Tucker Robertson, J.R. Avon, Avery Hayes and Connor Lockhart scored for the Petes. Michael Simpson made 26 saves in the win.

The first engagement allowed both teams to analyze their opponent. The only highlight of the first period was the penalty of the Remparts striker Gaucher, for tripping, after 13:31 of play.

Few shots were taken in the first period, as the Petes outshot the Petes 9-5 after 20 minutes of play.

After 9:03 of play in the second period, Robertson scored the first goal of the match and his first of the Memorial Cup, on an assist from Brennan Othmann.

The Petes then doubled their lead on an overplay, as the team almost got a two-for-zero. Avon completed a fine offensive play by Chase Stillman, who gave him the puck to the right of the goalie. Avon then quickly shot and made it 2-0.

The Remparts scored their first goal thanks to winger Malatesta, who reduced the deficit to 2-1 after 13:36 of play in the second period.

Hayes and Gaucher then traded goals in less than 30 seconds, and the Petes were up 3-2 with less than five minutes left in the second period.

The Petes carried the Remparts hard, while Lockhart scored his team’s fourth goal to restore a two-goal lead to his team.

Remparts head coach Patrick Roy changed goalkeepers following the goal, removing Rousseau to insert Miller in the nets.
