Hot water prohibited: the 6 questions about this decree

After going to the toilet, after eating or after taking public transport, washing your hands is essential for our hygiene and our health, especially after the episode of this famous contagious Covid virus. If you had got into the habit of washing your hands with hot water, this trend will soon be upset by this decree which authorizes companies to remove hot water from taps at work.

This measure passed in the form of a decree aims to avoid the obligation of the Labor Code to “provide workers with water at an adjustable temperature in the workplace”. The derogation appears in the Official Journal of April 24, as noticed by our colleagues from France 3.

In October 2022, the Government set a target to reduce the country’s energy consumption by 10%. A few months later, at the end of winter, France managed to make a joint effort to reduce energy consumption with electricity consumption down by 8% and gas consumption by almost 13%. This general mobilization launched by the Government, initially perceived as a drudgery, finally became a first step towards a gradual cultural transformation of French society.

Individuals, cities and municipalities were on the front line. Since then, companies have also been mobilized on avenues for improvement to be explored. On July 1, 2022, as part of the “energy sobriety” plan, the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt and the Minister for Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher brought together employer organizations. “The actors agreed with the ministers on the importance of putting on the table all the options that could improve our sovereignty and lower the energy bill, while protecting the quality of work of employees.”

Eleven months later, we can say that certain things have changed since this meeting, in particular this decree in addition to passing the Labor Code, as detailed by Actu.fr.

If you have questions about this “special” decree put in place, find 6 answers about it in our slideshow below.
