(Paris) French manufacturer Alstom said on Tuesday that it would supply 34 trams to Quebec, Canada, a contract including the maintenance of the equipment for thirty years with a total value of 1.34 billion Canadian dollars.

The contract also includes an option for the acquisition of up to five additional trains, including maintenance, according to a press release.

According to the city of Quebec, the rolling stock itself amounts to 569 million Canadian dollars and the “maintenance” part of the contract to 768 million.

The French group, very established in Quebec since the takeover of its Canadian competitor Bombardier Transport, was alone in the running, according to the local press.

Alstom will supply the Quebec capital with Citadis-type trams — its flagship model which equips most French cities, but also Casablanca, Dubai, Ottawa, Rotterdam, Rio de Janeiro or Sydney — adapted to the local climate and manufactured in the region.

19.3 km long and underground in the heart of the city, the Quebec City tram is due to open in 2029.
