What retirement in the army?

The military see their retirement being managed by the pension scheme for civil servants and magistrates. Several distinctions are however notable, in favor of the military, who have often harsh and specific working conditions. What retirement is planned for a career in the Army?

Among the first major differences between the retirement of the military and that of civil servants, the retirement age is an important issue. Indeed, army personnel do not meet the obligation of a legal retirement age. It is the length of service that is taken into account in the calculation of the pension of army retirees. For example, 27 years of service are required for officers and 20 years for contract officers. 17 years of service are also required for non-commissioned military personnel or commissioned military personnel. It is also possible, for a disabled soldier, to benefit from a retirement for disability without condition of length of service.

If the length of service is not reached, the retirement pension can be paid deferred at the age of 52. It is possible for a soldier to be automatically retired when he reaches this threshold. The method of calculating the military pension remains, for its part, close to that of civil servants. It is therefore necessary to use the formula “Balance for the last 6 months x 75% x (trimesters acquired / number of trimesters required”. To benefit from a full pension, the rules change according to the age limit: if it is 57 or over, the full rate is obtained when the age limit is reached whereas, if she is under 57, 118 quarters of service will be required for officers compared to 78 for non-officers.
