General strike on April 13: which sectors are affected?

Thursday April 13, 2023 will mark the twelfth day of mobilization against the pension reform. The intersyndicale met Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne at Matignon. This meeting is described as a “failure” by the unions, according to the retransmission of their speech on the steps of Matignon by France24. Thus, Sophie Binet, new president of the CGT, and the rest of the unions recalled the importance of renewing the strike. Discover in our slideshow below the sectors mobilized for the strike.

Thus, an eleventh day of general and national strike took place on April 6th. The latter had brought together nearly 570,000 French people according to the Ministry of the Interior, and nearly 2 million people according to the CGT. During this day, Sophie Binet refused to answer questions from CNews claiming to only want to respond to media promoting the plurality of discourse.

All sectors continue to mobilize

Since March 7, all sectors have joined the strike and protest movement against this text. Among them, we find rail and air transport, or the garbage collectors’ union. With the approach of the examination of this reform on April 14, all the unions remain hopeful. Indeed, the Elders of the Council will be able to decide the total adoption of this text, or a partial or total censorship.

Pending the verdict, the unions responded positively to this strike call. Faced with the denial of President Emmanuel Macron, they intend to continue to renew the strikes until the withdrawal of this reform. For his part, the head of state does not seem to hear these voices.

Indeed, at the time of the signing of a peace pact for the war in Ukraine by the two heads of state, the president denied “any democratic crisis in France”, according to the words of his entourage collected by Challenges. He would have again deplored the “violence” present in the demonstrations.

Discover below the sectors affected by the strikes.
