(Montreal) Union members of the Steelworkers who work in a manufacturing company in Granby have just ratified their new collective agreement, which grants them a 12% increase from the first year of the employment contract.

They are a hundred to work for the company Industries Granby, which manufactures tanks for oil.

The Steelworkers union, affiliated with the FTQ, points out that the 12% increase from the first year will be applied to an average salary of $25 per hour.

For the second year of the employment contract, the salary increase will vary according to inflation, from at least 3.5% up to 5%. The same will apply for the third year of the collective agreement.

The contract also includes increased evening and night shift premiums, as well as holiday improvements.

“After a six-year contract, our members wanted some wage jump and inflation protection. This is what we managed to negotiate by showing solidarity and giving ourselves a good strike mandate, which in the end we did not need to use, since the negotiations unblocked. We are very happy with the result,” commented Bargaining Unit President Vanessa Gariépy.

The Canadian Press attempted to reach the employer on Monday, but its offices were closed for the Easter holiday.
