(Toronto) Mitch Marner had two goals and an assist on Saturday, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs outlast the Montreal Canadiens 7-1.

John Tavares also had a brace for the Leafs, who are .500 in their last 10 games.

Michael Bunting, Auston Matthews and William Nylander also hit the mark for the Toronto team.

Matthews, Ryan O’Reilly and Erik Gustafsson each took part in three goals.

Samuel Montembeault made 39 saves, 19 more than Ilya Samsonov.

Johnathan Kovacevic was the scorer for CH, who lost for the fifth time in six games.

The Canadiens had recalled goalkeeper Cayden Primeau and defender Corey Schueneman ahead of the game.

There are only two games left for the Habs. On Wednesday, they will visit the New York Islanders, before hosting the Boston Bruins on Thursday.

The Leafs took a 1-0 lead at 9:08 on superiority. With a dry shot from the slot, Marner completed a charge in the middle of the ice, alongside Matthews.

Toronto doubled the cushion at 15:16 in the first period. Marner spotted Tavares at the right mouth, for a one-timer shot.

The visitors were pitiful in the first period, being outshot 17-1.

The CH goal came at 2:28 in the middle period. Mike Matheson circled the net and delivered to the blue line, from where Kovacevic scored a third goal this season.

The Maple Leafs are guaranteed to finish second in the Atlantic Division.

They will finish the regular season playing Sunrise, Tampa and Madison Square Garden Monday through Thursday.

Toronto will face the Tampa Lightning in the first round of the playoffs.

The Toronto team has not made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2004.
