As announced in early March by the Secretary of State to the Minister for Ecological Transition, Bérangère Couillard, supermarkets have shown their interest in the famous anti-waste law. An independent certifying body associated with the State awards brands the precious sesame.

The government wants supermarkets to halve their food losses by 2025. The objective being above all to unify their efforts in order to fight against this phenomenon which persists more and more, explains Capital. “Labellized establishments will be able to affix the label to their storefront, which will be accompanied by a star for commitment to the process, two stars for mastery and three stars for exemplary behavior depending on the waste reduction rate achieved. and anti-waste practices implemented,” the ministry explains. The ambition for these retail giants is obviously to keep their precious title.

When we talk about waste and supermarkets, we sometimes think of products that expire and end up in a garbage can. This is it, but not only. This law aims to motivate major brands to make efforts, admittedly small but important, for the environment and also for consumers.

The government offers access to the measures already in place on its Service-public site. Among these measures taken, there is “the exit from the use of plastic” with the measure of the abolition of plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables. We also find “the reduction of waste” which imposes itself in a way as the flagship measure and which aims to “prohibit the destruction of unsold non-food items”. Other measures will be put in place to continue this project and complete it by 2025.

We are now revealing to you the brands already committed to this fight against waste.
