Ferrari unveiled a convertible version of its entry-level Roma coupe a few weeks ago. This will take the place of the Portofino M and will inaugurate the return of the soft top to the discoverable works of the Prancing Horse brand.

The Roma Spider thus skips the complex hardtop of its predecessor for a fabric headgear, an approach that has become widespread in an industry chasing pounds. The first roof of its kind for Ferrari since the 1969 365 GTS4, it can deploy in 13.5 seconds at a top speed of 60 km/h. To avoid undoing the occupants’ hair too much, a retractable deflector housed behind the rear seatbacks can be deployed.

Obviously, beyond these technical considerations, this Roma retains its intrinsic beauty cultivated by its beautiful grand touring coupe proportions. To dynamically support its lines, the 3.9L V8 powered by two turbochargers remains present with its 612 hp in reserve. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission ensures torque is sent to the rear wheels.

Ferrari claims that only 84 kg have been added to the scale compared to the coupe body and that the chassis remains very rigid despite the absence of the structural support of the roof, without giving any figures on this subject. Now let’s hope this unveiling attracts the mild spring weather.
