PV: the 5 fines that can now be paid in installments

Since March 6, some fine payment methods have changed. Indeed, this date marks the start of an experimental phase involving the National Agency for the Automated Processing of Offenses (Antai), the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance. The experiment in question concerns the split payment, in several installments, of certain fines, as reported by our colleagues from Merci pour l’Info.

The split in question could even involve paying in three or even 5 instalments. The fines concerned are the “delictual fixed fines” (AFD). Having made their debut in 2016, they are part of measures to decongest the courts. Indeed, they make it possible to sanction the culprits without having them go through the court box: the payment of the fine then amounts to an acknowledgment of the facts on the part of the payer, which automatically puts an end to the legal proceedings.

The number of AFDs distributed has greatly increased: in 2021, more than 225,000 fines were sent by the Antai, i.e. a volume doubled compared to that of the previous year. However, the recovery rate remains very low: it is estimated at 35%. The cause would be the too high amount of the fines: ranging from 150 to 800 euros depending on the offences, they can sometimes be too high.

To be able to pay your fine in installments, simply indicate that you only want to pay part of the amount due at the time of payment, whether you go through the dedicated website, the mobile application or even by phone call. . You will then need to attach the same telepayment number to your additional payments. The total amount must still be paid before the end of the payment period indicated, otherwise the fine will be increased.

Find below the 5 types of offenses for which fines can be paid in installments.
