Actors Tania Kontoyanni and Pierre-Luc Brillant will compete in a second round to determine who will succeed Sophie Prégent as president of the Union des artistes.

Indeed, at the end of the vote which took place from March 20 to 23, none of the four candidates in the running obtained a simple majority (50 votes 1), a first in the history of the UDA, according to the leadership of the union. The two candidates with the most votes will face off in a duel.

In addition to Tania Kontoyanni and Pierre-Luc Brillant, who obtained 32.9% and 32.4% of the votes respectively, Michel Langevin and Sylvain Massé were also running in the race to succeed Sophie Prégent, who held the position for 10 years.

Active members will therefore be called upon to vote again between April 4 and 6 in order to decide. The new president will be announced on April 7 (the day of Good Friday).

30% of the 8,578 members exercised their right to vote, said the UDA, which also announced the composition of its new board of directors made up of 20 members (all categories combined).

According to information provided by the UDA, there was an election in the categories “actors-actresses” and “singers-singers”, the administrators of the other categories having been elected by acclamation. All Board members are elected for a four-year term.

There is also for the first time a seat reserved for a member of the First Nations, Métis or Inuit (Charles Buckell-Robertson), a gesture of “recognition” and “reconciliation” by the UDA towards these communities.

In the actor-actress category, the new administrators are Eloi ArchamBaudoin, Olivier Aubin, Pierre-Luc Brillant, Annette Garant, Tania Kontoyanni, Michel Laperrière, Sylvain Massé, Lily Thibeault and Sophie Prégent, who does not leave the UDA completely.

Among the singers-singers, David Bussières, Charlotte Cumberbirch and France D’Amour were elected. The other categories are animators-animators, dancers-dancers, a regional section in Quebec and a section in Toronto.
