Pension reform: refineries again blocked on the weekend of March 18

Thursday, March 16 marked a day full of rebounds for all French people. Indeed, after the favorable vote of the Senate for the adoption of the pension reform, Elisabeth Borne triggered article 49.3 in the afternoon to pass this text to the Assembly.

Only, the unions had warned. If article 49.3 were mobilized, anger would rumble. This is what happened Thursday afternoon when Elisabeth Borne announced its use after an expeditious Council of Ministers. Indeed, a surprise mobilization took place at Place de la Concorde after a call from the Solidaires union. After clashes in the early evening, the Ministry of the Interior had 10,000 people present at this improvised mobilization.

On the morning of March 17, an individual action took place on the Paris ring road and continues to move to the various gates of this road. Indeed, following a call from the CGT, the ring road was blocked at Porte de Clignancourt, then at Porte de Montreuil and Porte d’Italie, as reported by Le Parisien.

The garbage collectors’ unions already mentioned a few days ago, the extension of their strike until Monday in Paris, for the moment. In this line, Olivier Mateu, secretary of the CGT Departmental Union of Bouches-du-Rhône, already announced that “it’s time to fill up on gas”, at the microphone of BFMTV on March 13.

After the inter-union meeting on Thursday evening, Eric Sellini, CGT coordinator within the oil group, announced to AFP this Friday, March 17, the blocking of the TotalEnergies refinery in Normandy.

He adds that “the main units will start stopping from tomorrow”. “Normally, the refinery will be shut down this weekend or Monday at the latest.” The refineries of La Mède, Donges and the Esso refinery in Fos-sur-Mer are still on strike, “that does not change”, he specifies. In Fos, “deliveries are made sporadically”.

The Gravenchon-Port-Jérôme refinery (Esso) also had to stop production due to the lack of crude oil from the import depot in Le Havre, where employees are on strike, as BFMTV points out.
