While a study by FranceInfo on a selection of products revealed inflation of 16.6% in February over one year, anti-inflation baskets are starting to be put in place in supermarkets. Among the products that have suffered the most from the increase in consumer products, we find rice, sugar and flour, with an average increase of around 30%. However, these everyday foods are bought, cooked and consumed by many French people.

In 2014, INSEE mentioned the figure of 23% of the budget devoted to food expenditure in Île-de-France and in the Provinces. This share of the budget is explained by the large number of French people who cook their own dish. Indeed, Ifop reveals in a 2020 study that 67% of us cook “every day or almost” out of 1014 people questioned. 15% cook “every other day”. The Ifop study also details the habits and food choices of the French. 42% of us cook fresh vegetables and fruit every day. This study was conducted in three populations:

The interviewers also asked respondents what they cooked most often. The answer is clear for the three professional or family situations. 42% of them answered that they cooked “rather dishes that require a long preparation”. These long preparation dishes are often inspired by cooking shows available on television or on the Internet. But, who says long preparation, says food leftovers.
