The end of the year promises to be difficult, even “tense” during the holiday season. For the past month, the Covid has been on the rise again and the contaminations have made the situation more and more tense in the hospital with an increasing number of deaths.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne wanted to warn the French this Tuesday, December 20 against the conjunction of three epidemics which are currently spreading: Covid-19, influenza and bronchiolitis. And the Prime Minister to call for vaccination and the wearing of a mask. On the side of the coronavirus, we seem to have reached a peak in contaminations, but hospitalizations and deaths continue.

“What we are seeing at the national level is a slight drop in the positivity rate”, but “new hospitalizations of Covid-19 patients are still on the rise” and “deaths (…) continue to increase” , summarized last Friday Nicolas Methy, expert at Public Health France.

Although precise measurements are difficult to make, because a social movement has affected biology laboratories, the peak of the current wave seems to have been reached: the indicators mark the beginning of a decline in contamination.

But on the hospital side, the picture is bleaker: in almost a month, no less than 24,000 hospitalizations have been recorded, an unprecedented figure compared to last spring. There are currently some 1,504 admissions per day, including 126 in critical care, an increase of 8% and 10% respectively over seven days.
