An unprecedented energy context. This winter of 2022-2023 is marked by the risk of tension on the French electricity network. When temperatures drop, power cuts are customary… But this year, cold spells are likely to occur while the country is experiencing energy supply difficulties. The reason: many nuclear reactors are shut down in France.

“EDF has fallen far behind in its timetable for relaunching the nuclear fleet, a substantial part of which has been shut down for several months to deal with problems relating to the phenomenon of stress corrosion or in the context of simple maintenance”, explain our colleagues from BFMTV.

To avoid widespread and uncontrolled blackouts, RTE (Electricity transmission network) proposes, as a last resort, to set up load shedding. These are localized and programmed power cuts, lasting a maximum of two hours. These will be concentrated at times of peak consumption, i.e. between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 7 and 8 p.m.
