France is currently under the influence of a mass of cold air coming from Northern Europe. This mass of cold air is about to collide with an oceanic disturbance above the metropolitan territory. Said collision generates an episode of wet and sticky snow in the Massif Central and which will spread in the Languedoc hinterland on the evening of December 12, as reported by La Chaîne Météo.
The snow will spread the following night towards the Rhône-Alpes region as well as the north of the PACA region. Tomorrow morning will also be snowy in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Ditto for the territory extending from the North of Auvergne to the French Alps. Vigilance is required, patches of ice often go hand in hand with snowy episodes: you will have to be very careful when hitting the road, and possibly bring suitable tires.
The nature of the forecast snow is not negligible: heavy and sticky, it has the potential to damage the vegetation but also the electrical network! So beware of power cuts… Clearly, the last few months have been synonymous with broken weather records: the national indicator reaches 0.4°C, unheard of since February 2018. Temperature averages are generally 5 to 8 degrees below seasonal averages!
Everything suggests a negative balance for this month of December: we would then witness the coldest last month of the year since 2010. However, temperatures should potentially rise a little from Tuesday, December 13, according to the Free lunch. This does not mean, however, that they will not remain in the negative in certain regions of the country.
