This week, the dynamic is reversed: we will see below average temperatures for the season. The meteorological winter will begin on December 1, and will see a gradual but resolute drop in temperatures. The reason ? An easterly wind that will bring to eastern France the cold brought to central and eastern Europe by an anticyclone located in Scandinavia, as reported by La Chaîne Météo.

Between Monday, November 28 and Friday, December 2, the thermometer will therefore generally show between 4 and 5 degrees Celsius cooler, which will place us around 2°C below the seasonal average. Early next week, the anticyclone hovering between the Arctic and Scandinavia will strengthen. We could then witness what is called a “polar stall” which, as its name suggests, involves the stalling of polar air which would then spread in particular towards France.

This polar air could then further lower temperatures across France, which could be accompanied by snowfall even in our plains. The northern half of the country could see its first widespread frosts of the year. The month of December may end with temperatures slightly below average, a first since 2016. If the entire month continues with temperatures below average, we would see unprecedented phenomenon since 2010!
