If the Covid-19 would go almost unnoticed as the news this fall is anxiety-provoking, the virus is still very present on the territory.

For several weeks, an eighth epidemic wave has even hit the country, even if its intensity remains less than the previous ones.

Wearing a mask, barrier gestures, and new booster doses… The authorities have recently called for greater vigilance in the face of the resurgence of the virus.

Monday, October 17, Public Health even announced that the symbolic level of 1,000 patients in intensive care had been crossed. Nationally, hospital tension rose to 20.7% on Tuesday, October 18.

The incidence rate, meanwhile, climbed to 582 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. On average, last week, one in four people being tested tested positive. And the reproduction rate R, at 1.15 infected people for one patient, if it remains moderate, shows that the epidemic is progressing.

However, we also note that, in certain regions, the figures tend to smooth out… or even drop significantly.

Tuesday, October 18, there were 87,666 new cases: this is the third highest day since the start of this eighth wave. Still, that’s far less than seven days earlier, when 94,743 new cases were recorded.

In fact, it is possible that the peak of the eighth wave has indeed been reached in recent weeks. To confirm this, however, it will be necessary to observe a significant drop for several days.
