Covid-19: can the TousAntiCovid application be deleted?

Is Covid-19 finally behind us? Not really, according to the latest statements by scientists.

On August 1, however, the government ended the state of health emergency, after having gradually lifted most of the restrictions put in place for two years to deal with the spread of the epidemic. But if the era of the dreaded epidemic peaks seems to be over, the virus has not yet said its last word.

In the columns of Le Parisien, Brigitte Autran, president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks, which very recently replaced the Scientific Council, warns: “The most likely scenario is that of an epidemic peak at the start of the school year. Will it be due to a new variant or the return of the cold? We are not diviners, but it is almost certain that there will be a wave in the fall”.

However, the government’s strategy now seems to be “living with it”.

As of August 17, 2022, in any case, the national incidence rate was 271 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a “high” but “declining” figure, according to CovidTracker. We thus pick up 28% fewer cases than last week.

In a climate, which is moreover, summery, many French people have thus abandoned the TousAntiCovid application and its sacrosanct health pass (or vaccination, it depends). The device, which has been permanently installed on our smartphones for two years, makes it possible to centralize vaccination certificates and test results, but also to detect whether the user has been in contact with people who have tested positive.

Today, its use remains exceptional. But you might be better off not deleting it anytime soon.

Indeed, TousAntiCovid could be useful if you are traveling abroad: many countries still require proof of a complete vaccination schedule to cross their borders.

Then, the application can also be used to find, then book, a vaccination slot, and inform you about your eligibility for the different doses.

Finally, it may be wise to keep the application in a corner of your phone, because the evolution of the health situation is still uncertain. The National Commission for Computing and Liberties (CNIL) itself noted in a report dated August 5 that “the extension of the Bluetooth contact tracking functionality [of TousAntiCovid] is justified, despite its marginal usefulness “. For the institution, therefore, the application still retains certain advantages today.
