Storm Beasts: 8 Simple Tips to Get Rid of Them

They sting you and stick to your skin as soon as the weather gets heavy. These little black beasts, called thrips, are particularly annoying. They are tiny insects with elongated bodies and wings fringed with long, thin bristles. These biting insects are certainly harmless to your health, but can be extremely invasive. Also, they are dangerous for your plants. Indeed, according to the site jardinage.lemonde.fr, “the result of their attacks are speckled yellow spots becoming silvery which slow down the growth of plants, or even stop it”.

How to recognize them? According to the C Tendance site, they are very small and generally do not measure more than one or even two millimeters. They also have a long body as well as four very thin wings. These storm beasts can be many colors: light yellow, dark brown, black… If we often believe that these pests appear when the thunder rumbles, it is not so: they appear rather during harvests and high heat. It is for this reason that they are also nicknamed “August beasts”. Indeed, these tend to remain in large numbers on the ground if there is little wind and sweltering weather.

On your windows, in the air, under your clothes, on the leaves of your plants… It only takes a very short time to feel overwhelmed. “There can be up to 2 billion insects per square kilometer,” notes C Trend. In your garden, they can be destructive: they attack your vegetable garden, feed on the sap of your plants, transmit viruses to them. In addition, storm beasts multiply very quickly because they are often females who do not need males to reproduce.

Another reason why you should not let them take up residence in your garden: they will always end up inviting themselves into your home, by landing on you or passing through the windows. In the slideshow above, Planet lists seven very simple tricks to get rid of them. You will find the best advice to get rid of it from your skin, your interior and your plants.
