In the Cévennes, the fire which ravaged more than 650 hectares on July 9, 2022, is fixed but not completely under control. The high temperatures announced for the next few weeks have authorities fearing new fires. According to the newspaper Le Parisen of July 10, 2022, for some mayors in the Gard region, urgent measures must be put in place.

As July 14 approaches, the mayor of Nîmes has decided: “I have made the decision to cancel today the fireworks planned for the national holiday,” he announced in a press release. The terrible crisis situation linked to the many fires in the department, which the rescue and firefighters are facing, whose courage and self-sacrifice I want to salute, obviously leads us not to put anyone at risk. »

The town halls of Anduze, La Grand-Combe or Vézénobres in the Gard have taken the same decision. But a more common measure may soon be fixed. In an interview with BFMTV, the Minister Delegate in charge of Territorial Collectivities Caroline Cayeux indicated that the Gard prefecture should, indeed, ban fireworks throughout the department.

The city of Aubagne, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, has already made its decision on Sunday July 10, 2022. “Following a request from the prefect, the firefighters will not secure the fireworks of 14 July,” says Gérard Gazay, mayor of Aubagne in the hills of La Provence. “So we made the decision to cancel it for the national holiday, and to shift it to those at the end of the year. We don’t want to take any additional risks given the context. »

The mayors of Allauch and Plan-de-Cuques, also in the Bouches-du-Rhône, took the decision on Friday July 8, 2022 to ban fireworks in their cities.
