It will be very hot. All over France, meteorologists are sounding the alarm: after very high temperatures in June, we can again expect a strong heat wave in July. From the week of July 11, the risk of seeing the mercury flirt with 35 degrees is real, informs RTL on its site. In some departments, it may even be necessary to protect against higher maximums, since some forecasters are talking about the 40 degree mark. It is the south-east of the country, in particular, which could prove to be the most mistreated.

That being said, La Chaîne Météo announces on its platform, it must be taken into account that several scenarios still seem possible. Pascal Scaviner, head of the forecasting department explains this in an interview, after recalling that it “is not surprising to speak of a heat wave in July”. The latter are more common there than in June. The two scenarios currently envisaged predict strong heat over all or part of the country. “We can observe significant differences in certain regions that can go up to 5 °C. This is a significant difference, given the discomfort generated and the consequences on the health of the most fragile people”, he underlines.

On the road to the holidays too, it is likely to be particularly hot. This is why it is essential to be vigilant at the time of departure. In order not to be surprised by the heat wave by car, it is therefore important to choose the right time to leave – when possible, it may be appropriate to postpone your departure, recalls Road Safety on its site. Avoid riding between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.; avoid rush hour or risk getting stuck in traffic. Also think about loose and light clothing and make sure you stay hydrated throughout the journey. Multiply the breaks; the heat is tiring.

Of course, air conditioning can prove to be an indispensable ally. It is nonetheless very expensive: for 100 kilometers of road, it can generate a fuel consumption surplus of 0.4 liters. In town, some vehicles lose up to 2 liters for the same length of journey, says ADEME.
