Who is Diane Parry, the new rising star of French tennis?

Succession seems to be assured for tricolor tennis. Among the players involved in the Roland-Garros tournament this year, Diane Parry achieved the incredible feat of beating defending champion Barbora Krejčíková. On May 23, the Frenchwoman, ranked 97th player in the world, won in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 6-3), against her Czech opponent in front of her supporters on the Philippe-Chartier court.

While the match was off to a bad start for Diane Parry, the young sportswoman was on the offensive to overcome the number 2 seed after two hours of play. A feat that the 19-year-old athlete hopes to repeat this Wednesday. May 25 during the second round of Roland-Garros, where she will face Colombian Camila Osorio on the Simone-Mathieu court.

Born on September 1, 2002 in Nice, Diane Parry has been playing in the Paris region with the Boulogne-Billancourt tennis club since she was 5 years old. A novice in her early days, the player honed her technique and managed to shine in several tournaments in her young career. Then, she played her first matches in the main Grand Slam events. Like the junior Wimbledon tournament, then the US Open in tennis in 2019, as well as the Australian Open in 2022. Before that, she won the tournaments in Buenos Aires (in Argentina) and Montevideo (in Uruguay) in 2021 .

Not to mention her debut at Roland-Garros, since 2017, where the sportswoman nevertheless suffered a few defeats in the first round. By dint of perseverance, his forehand allowed him to achieve in 2019 until the third round in doubles on clay. Three years later, Diane Parry was there to pass the second round and shine in front of the French public.

Like Philippe Joliot, president of the Boulogne-Billancourt tennis club, who watched his victory from the stands of Roland Garros. “She’s a discreet, intelligent and super humble girl, her start is fantastic,” he rejoiced on the France Bleu website. “It makes everyone happy at the club, because she trained in Boulogne. It’s still extraordinary for all the young girls at the club”.
