What does the ideal retirement home look like?

Don’t end your life in a deathbed. Already before the Orpéa scandal and the damning IGAS investigation, nursing homes did not have good press in France. Often considered as an antechamber before the last trip, they mainly accommodate diminished patients, who sometimes stay there until they die. However, this is far from being the future dreamed of by the French, who recently revealed the portrait of their ideal accommodation, once the cessation of activity has occurred.

This very special house, explains Capital on its site, is the result of numerous testimonies collected as part of an Ifop survey carried out for Arpavie. All in all, 59% of respondents (one in two of whom are at least 50 years old) imagine it to be located in the city center. They are as much to want it to offer at least two rooms, for a monthly cost of less than 1,500 euros according to 66% of them.

The price, it should be specified, is the first criterion of choice for 62% of the individuals questioned. 64% of them consider the presence of “nice and caring” staff necessary.

However, an overwhelming majority of French women and men want to age at home, points out the magazine specializing in economics. But this is something complex, which requires substantial preparation… That only a small minority of respondents anticipate.

40% of them adapt their accommodation and 38% remain convinced that they will have to leave their home. They therefore wish to find a residence close to a hospital (51%), but also close to their own (37%) or accommodation already adapted to their situation (28%), underlines the press title.
