Vietnam is ready to help Laos fight COVID-19: PM

Vietnam stands side-by-side and is ready to assist Laos if necessary to reverse the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated this to Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the Lao National Assembly, during their meeting in Hanoi, December 6.

Hanoi, VNA – Vietnam stands side by side with Laos and is ready to assist Laos when necessary to reverse the COVID-19 pandemic. This was stated by Prime Minster Pham Minh Chinh to Saysomphone Phomvihane, President of the Lao National Assembly, during their meeting in Hanoi, December 6.

Both leaders expressed delight at the strengthening of the friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between their countries in all areas. This includes politics, diplomacy and national defense-security. It also covers economy, trade and investment.

Even with the COVID-19 pandemic the two-way trade remained above 1 billion USD for the first ten month of 2021. This is an increase of 30.1 percent over the previous year. With 209 projects totaling 5.18 billion USD, Vietnam was third largest foreign investor in Laos.

Saysomphone expressed deep gratitude to the Vietnamese Party and State for their invaluable and timely support in fighting the pandemic.

Both leaders agreed that they would effectively execute high-level agreements, prepare for the upcoming 44th Meeting of the Vietnam – Laos Inter-Governmental Committee and continue to work closely together to fight COVID-19. They also agreed to strengthen national defense-security collaboration and accelerate infrastructure projects like Vung Ang 1, 2 and 3 seaports.

They agreed to continue implementing signed education project; hold joint activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of signing the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation 2022; and support each other at multilateral forums, particularly in issues relating to each country’s security and economic development.
