The reopening of bars and restaurants have stagnated over the last few weeks, with 84% of establishments that have been recovered activity and a sector that has lost 25% of sales that was a year ago. As reflected in the weekly study that made the “Observatory of the Desescalada in Bars and Restaurants in Spain”, based on the data handled by the employers of companies of distribution, catering establishments (Fedishoreca) and released yesterday.

By autonomous communities there is a wide range that goes from 74% of Madrid and the Balearic islands, 90% of Asturias and Galicia . In any case, warn in addition to that the reopening is maintained in the 84% already for three consecutive weeks, so the 16% of the restaurants could close their doors permanently. The data were collected between 27 July and 2 August. At this same time reported sales have been up 75% compared to what came a year ago. That is to say, the industry has lost one of every four euros that billed in July of 2019.

The sales recorded their largest drop in the very tourist Balearic islands , where you are being billed for almost half a year ago (53%) and in Aragon , one of the epicenters of the new flare-ups, where you enter the 69% of what you did the previous exercise. The autonomous communities where more is entered are Castile and León , 81% a year ago, and Asturias (85%).

moreover, the difference between the recorded sales and the reopening is nearly ten points which denotes the lowest income in those establishments that are open. What have been attributed from Fedishoreca, at least in part, to the limitations of capacity and the restrictions adopted to prevent the spread of the virus. In addition to the strong drop in tourism and, in this line, the authors of the report have warned that without tourists, “the accounts are suffering even more in August.”
