Again the voice and the music to one of the theaters of the opera world’s most famous, Milan , 133 days after your closing by the coronavirus. It was the first theater in down the curtain in Italy by the Covid-19, just a couple of days after the explosion of the epidemic in Codogno (Lombardy).

This Monday, day 6, will be the first of the four concerts. The baritone Luca Salsi will interpret arias of opera, to which are added the Sonnets of Petrarca by Franz Liszt with pianist Beatrice Rana, and the cellist Mischa Maisky. With various artists will be playing concerts the days 8, 13 and 15 July . Each one will last 75 minutes without a pause. It is a minitemporada of summer with a maximum of 600 spectators to respect the rules of social distancing (his usual capacity is 2030 people), with a price of 48 euro in the orchestra and loge, and 24 euros in galleries . Will remain closed the bar and the cloakroom.

“For many music lovers, it’s time to re-listen to it live, even if it means reduced”, stated the new superintendent, Dominique Meyer , who until now headed the Vienna Staatsoper. “We’ve organized added- the entrance and exit of the spectators. All will have a detailed protocol for how to move”. After July 15, the Scala will close for maintenance works.

The theater reopens September 3 with the “Requiem” of Verdi in the piazza del Duomo, followed by the day 5 the “Ninth Symphony” Beethoven in la Scala opera house, both concerts directed by Riccardo Chailly . It is not casual the choice of these works. Given the cultural importance of la Scala, the aim is to contribute to raise the spirits of the country, as explained by the superintendent: “With the “Requiem”, in the square in front of the cathedral, is a tribute to the memory of those killed by the coronavirus. With the “Ninth” of Beethoven’s sending a message of hope to all the world.”

Failure to realize the poster for the season 2020/2021 , which opens, as is traditional, on the 7th of December, day of Saint Ambrose, patron of Milan. The superintendent confirmed that it is restructuring the program: “ “La Traviata” and “Aida” is expected with mounts historic, but require a choir, and this is not compatible with the rules of estrangement”. Will have to wait until August, recognizes Dominique Meyer: “We are checking everything, also from the point of view of the budget; keep in mind that viewers foreign, that are usually a third of the total, will not come. We need to move forward with a lot of realism”.
