One mystery has emerged in the excavations of Pompeii , that bring to light the remains of a villa of the time of Augustus, the first roman emperor who ruled from 27 to.C. up to 14 d.C. A white flower stands out delicately on the shiny black of a wall. There appeared also the name of a girl inscribed on a wall: Mummia . This leads to think that the owner of the domus was a member of the Mummii, family is very important in Rome, of whose presence they had never found the remains in Pompeii, the roman city destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 d.C.

This residence is a surprise in the excavations to the north of the roman city. Have come to light painted walls and arches that suggest a nearby structure, importance and luxury, to the Villa of the Mysteries , which is very famous for its frescoes (17 meters wide by three high) in a room of the residence. A painting of great beauty that represents, according to most experts, a ritual dionysian.

This new complex from the time of Augustus, which was excavated, with dimensions very important, it has spacious rooms of representation along with the service and work. The director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Massimo Ossanna , sees it is a discovery of great importance : “All the elements make us think of a suburban villa stunning , very important, with a view to the sea, so rich as to house in their stables horses of race”. The excavations, begun in the last days, are located in the area called “Civita Giuliana”, in the area north of Pompei, characterized by numerous resorts scattered throughout the territory by the demands of productive activities (production of oil or wine) or residential.

This brand new villa must have belonged, according to Massimo Osanna, perhaps a general or magistrate military of very high rank, perhaps a member of the family of Mummii, as seems to indicate the name Mummia, inscribed on the wall by the hand perhaps of a girl.
