Today is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz (Auschwitz). This day is celebrated as the international day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust. During the second world war in Auschwitz killed more than a million people. Most of the victims – Jews sent by Nazis to the gas chambers. Auschwitz was the largest death camp and became the most famous place in the world related to the Holocaust.

Among those who came to Auschwitz, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, the presidents of Germany and Israel. Came and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Russia was represented by Ambassador to Poland. Vladimir Putin took part last week in another event of the Holocaust memorial in Israel, Yad Vashem. The event was visited by the President of Poland – due to disputes with Russia about the Second world war. Putin was not invited to Auschwitz.

the President of the world Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder said that today’s events will focus on the participation of political leaders and Holocaust survivors. For many of them it is, apparently, the last opportunity to participate in commemorative events in the round anniversary of the liberation of the camp.

the Prime Minister of the Netherlands mark Rutte on the eve on behalf of the government of the country for the first time apologized for the failure of the authorities during the Second world war to protect the Jews. The country was occupied by Nazi Germany, many Dutch officials carrying out the orders of the occupation authorities. Three quarters lived in the Netherlands before the war, Jews were victims of the Holocaust.

Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945. Now in the territory of the former camp is a Museum listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
