(New York) Aaron Judge made his presence felt in the New York Yankees’ home opener on Thursday afternoon, as he has done so often in 2022: by slamming a home run.
In his first game as captain of the famous team, Judge hit a solo long pitch in the first inning against San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Logan Webb.
The ball traveled 422 feet and landed in a net above Monument Park in center field at Yankee Stadium.
For Judge, it was his first career home run in an opener.
Judge scored another run with a single in the seventh inning.
Last year, Judge hit 62 home runs, erasing the 61 American League mark that had belonged to Roger Maris, formerly of the Yankees, since 1961.
After last season, he became a free agent and considered signing with the Giants, who was born in Sacramento. He eventually signed a nine-year, $360 million deal to stay with the Yankees.
