(Brampton) Captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored her 100th goal for Canada and the Maple Leaf beat the Czechs 5-1 at the Women’s World Hockey Championship on Friday.
Poulin completed a two-on-one with Blayre Turnbull by beating Blanka Skodova on the backhand at 8:03 in the first period.
Poulin went so fast on the backhand that Skodova slipped to the wrong side when the Beauceronne headed the puck into the goal.
The 32-year-old was playing her 171st game with the national team.
Hayley Wickenheiser, Jayna Hefford and Danielle Goyette also reached 100 goals with Canada.
Poulin completed a double with a slapshot early in the third period.
Turnbull, Renata Fast and Laura Stacey scored the other winners’ goals at the CAA Centre.
Natalie Mlynkova scored for Czechia, who were outshot 42-15.
Canada let three powerplays slip away in the middle period.
The Czechs are led by Carla MacLeod, who played defense for the Canadian team. She helped the country win Olympic gold in Turin in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010.
The Canadians will face the Japanese on Saturday.
