Winter sales 2023: start, end… Dates to remember

Start 2023 having fun. The winter sales are the first time of the year for fashion fans to find bargains in France. After Black Friday, the Christmas and New Year holidays, your wallet has filled up a little and the clothes, accessories, high-tech products that have been eyeing you for a few weeks are sold for less by the brands.

Normally, the latter must offer you unsold products that have been on sale for more than a month, recalls the public service site, specifying that these reductions are not compulsory: “Merchants are not obliged to participate, nor to reduce the prices of all their stock”. They take place twice a year, in summer and winter.

As every year, the winter sales will last four weeks, during which markdowns will follow one another, with ever greater reductions on products offered in stores. For this year 2023, the sales will start on Wednesday January 11, 2023 and will end on Tuesday February 7, 2023 inclusive. Please note that four departments are not affected by this schedule:

For the inhabitants of these territories, it will be possible to make good deals from the beginning of January. Indeed, these four departments model their dates on Belgium, where the sales should take place from Tuesday January 3 to Tuesday January 31, 2023. Note these dates in your diaries.

The sales last four weeks and no more. Stores will of course be able to continue to lower prices beyond February 7, 2023, but they will no longer have the right to call these promotions “sales” because, recalls the Public Service website, “it is prohibited to use the word ‘sales’ outside these periods”. If promotions take place after the end of the sales, they will rather be private sales or isolated promotions, which will not prevent you from enjoying them just as much!
