Gale over France. A depression coming from the center of the Atlantic will arrive in the territory on the Channel side, on the night of Thursday March 30 to Friday March 31, 2023. According to forecasts from La Chaîne Météo, “the rapid passage of the low pressure center is likely to to cause a strong gale overnight from Thursday to Friday, and Friday morning, in the northwest quarter of our country, with stormy gusts, that is to say exceeding 100 km / h “. As Météo-France indicates for its part, we can speak of a storm when “the depression generates gusts greater than 90km/h”.

On the other hand, La Chaîne Météo explains that the speed of progression of the depression will slow down as it approaches our coasts, while its pressure will rise. Thus, the stage of the storm should not be crossed, according to the site specializing in meteorology. “If this depression were to be named by the British, it would be called Antoni, while it would be Mathis for the French”, however specifies the forecaster.

During this stormy episode, gusts of wind can reach 120 to 130 km/h locally. Where will the winds be the strongest? Discover the forecasts from La Chaîne Météo in our slideshow below.

According to the forecaster, the strength of the gusts will weaken during the day on Friday, while the depression will progress slowly but surely towards the North Sea. This stormy phenomenon is rather rare for a month of March: “Thus, gusts at 100 km / h in Brest (which seems likely for this episode) statistically only occur once every nine years”, writes La Chaîne Weather report.
