The weather continues again and again to make its own. Indeed, the month of March, which ends this week, will have seen days with almost summer temperatures, like weeks during which cold snaps follow one another. As for rainfall, the news is pretty good. The summer of 2022 as well as the winter which is slowly but surely ending, recorded records of rainfall deficit, to the chagrin of farmers.

Indeed, the month of February, for example, showed a rainfall deficit of almost 70%, as reported by La Chaîne Météo. The month of March, meanwhile, has finally reversed the trend: we count a rainfall indicator, which corresponds to the average rainfall over 30 major cities in France, of nearly 70 millimeters.

But its 30% excess rainfall is not the only factor characterizing this month of March. It is also the stormiest March… in almost 30 years! Indeed, a dizzying total of 16,620 lightning strikes were recorded in France between March 1 and March 28. The previous record, dating from March 2001, was greatly exceeded: it was 9,134 impacts.

The cause of these repeated thunderstorms? The very contrasting temperatures, coupled with a moisture-laden south-westerly flow, are a good part of the answer. This day of March 30 will see yet another stormy episode fall on part of the metropolitan territory. A total of 32 departments are placed in yellow storm vigilance. Find them below, along with the time at which the storm will break out above each of them, according to Météo France.
