The month of May 2023 was marked by the alternation between thunderstorms and rising temperatures. For the month of June, dry weather with a hot and summery trend awaits us. However, showers are never far away. Indeed, La Chaîne Météo seems to announce more homogeneous weather for the first part of the month with a possible deterioration at the end of June.

Cyril Bonnefoy, meteorologist for La Chaîne Météo, specifies that “after a durably dry weather in the north, the weather could become more unstable and stormy in mid-June”. Thus, precipitation will continue to flow when summer arrives. Nevertheless, the start of the month will be marked by surface drought in many areas.

The first week of June, opening with Whit Monday, will divide the territory in two. Indeed, “the situation is changing little with the persistence of high pressure conditions in northern France guaranteeing dry and fairly sunny weather”, announces Cyril Bonnefoy. In the north of the country, clear skies will also be accompanied by rising temperatures. These should be 2 to 3°C above seasonal norms. However, this will not be the case in the south of France.

“In the south, the weather will quickly be heavy and stormy”, adds the editorial staff of La Chaîne Météo. The late afternoons and evenings will be dominated by thunderstorms. Nevertheless, the latter will be weaker around the Mediterranean. A significant shift is therefore expected between the north and the south of France for the start of the meteorological summer. How is the second week of June shaping up?

La Chaîne Météo and Météo-France agree that the stormy trend in the south of France is likely to spread to other areas. “The anticyclone would still protect the northern and northwestern part of the country with lasting good and dry weather”, specifies Cyril Bonnefoy. For the rest of the territory, the weather seems more unstable with an alternation between clearings and precipitation. “Temperatures would fluctuate with thunderstorms but would often remain above normal for the season,” he concluded.

The degradation on part of the territory is explained by the influence of a barometric marsh. It is an area between an anticyclone and a depression with light precipitation. This situation could worsen during the third week of June.

“The anticyclone could definitively evacuate the country with the generalization of hot and heavy weather which could turn into a storm in many regions”, announces Cyril Bonnefoy for the third week of June. The greatest risk of thunderstorms extends from the south-west of France to the borders of the east of the country. However, the Mediterranean hinterland could also be affected by the weather.

In addition, temperatures will remain high in most departments. Some temporary refreshments may occur during thunderstorms. After this widespread inclement weather, the end of June should give way to sunny skies and summer temperatures.

For the transition to summer, temperatures seem to be climbing. Indeed, “the weather conditions should remain summer with high temperatures and often hot and heavy weather”, announces Cyril Bonnefoy. However, we are not immune to new stormy showers for the music festival. “They will often be punctual and localized and will not prevent you from enjoying good moments of dry weather with clearings”, concludes the editorial staff of La Chaîne Météo.

The month of June 2023 will therefore also be marked by variations in climate, but hot and muggy weather will prevail for a good part of the month.
