An electric atmosphere. The first stormy showers have already raged over the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the south of the Landes, but the worst is yet to come, as La Chaîne Météo attests.

“A depression located in northern Spain is bringing warm and unstable air to the Pyrenees and south-west France on Wednesday (…) thunderstorms are sometimes strong and are accompanied by strong electrical activity”, summarizes the site specializing in meteorology.

This stormy deterioration should be accompanied by bad weather, such as high intensities of rain up to 40mm per hour, the equivalent of 15 days of rain, but also a risk of hail and strong gusts of wind that can reach 100km / h locally.

If the south west of the country will be the first part of the territory to be affected, it should not be the only one. “In the early evening, heavy stormy rains may still occur in the central and eastern part of the Pyrenees, sometimes overflowing into the plain”, explains the forecaster.

After 9 p.m., this thundery activity should gradually subside. The various vigilances could thus be lifted at 10 p.m.

For its part, Météo France has placed around thirty departments on yellow storm vigilance in its six o’clock morning weather report this Wednesday, August 31, 2022. To find out if yours is concerned, simply consult our slideshow below.
