After announcing on the air Thursday that she was taking a break to treat a health concern, journalist and news anchor for TVA Nouvelles Sophie Thibault clarified on social networks that she suffered from skin cancer requiring surgery.

In an Instagram post on Saturday morning, she thanked people for the outpouring of love and support she received after announcing on Thursday that she needed to take a break to treat “a persistent medical condition.”

Sun exposure led to the dreaded word, she explains in her post: skin cancer.

“I’ve had chemo cream treatments and several surgeries over the past few months, which have kept me out, to my great regret, from major news events,” she wrote. .

However, an area of his skin is resistant to these treatments. She will have to undergo a new surgery on Monday, called Mohs surgery, which consists, explains Ms. Thibault, “in removing a tumor in small layers, to be analyzed on the spot, until there is no more cancer. “.

His surgery will take place at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. A recovery period is planned.

“I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Stéphanie Olivier for her dedication, as well as my bosses and colleagues at TVA for their understanding and support,” said Ms. Thibault.

In June 2022, Sophie Thibault took over from Pierre Bruneau to host the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts on the TVA channel. She had hosted the 10 p.m. newscast for 20 years in the same position.

Sophie Thibault ended her message to Internet users on Saturday by encouraging them to take care of their skin. “Beware of the sun and don’t skimp on the maximum protection cream,” she admonishes the audience.
