(New York) Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her New Zealand playing partner Erin Routliffe earned their ticket to the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles draw at the US Open following the withdrawal of the team consisting of Czechs Barbora Strycova and Marketa Vondrousova.

The announcement came after Vondrousova won her women’s singles fourth round match in three sets over American Peyton Stearns. She cited discomfort in one elbow to explain her decision.

Dabrowski and Routliffe, 16th seeds in women’s doubles, will face in the next round the pair made up of Lavallois Leylah Annie Fernandez and American Taylor Townsend, our 6.

Earlier this year, Fernandez and Townsend reached the final of the French Open and the Miami Open. They beat Dabrowski and Brazilian Luisa Stefani in the third round during their run at the French Open.

Routliffe and Dabrowski are in their fourth tournament together. They began their association in August at the National Bank Open in Montreal.

Dabrowski, 31, reached the women’s doubles semifinals at the 2021 US Open with Stefani. The latter had to give up during this match due to a knee injury.
