(New York) Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from the U.S. Open and will be replaced by a qualifier, tournament officials announced on Saturday.

Andreescu, the 2019 New York champion, skipped the Cincinnati tournament earlier this month due to a stress fracture in her back.

The 23-year-old Mississauga player tweeted Aug. 12 that she had back pain in her first-round loss to Marta Kostyuk in Washington on July 31.

She added that the pain worsened during her first-round loss to Camila Giorgi in Montreal, during the National Bank Open.

The US Open kicks off Monday in New York.

Andreescu has faced numerous injuries since 2019.

She missed a month earlier this year after suffering two ligament tears in her left ankle in Miami in late March.
