A whimpering, seriously injured little girl was found in a cat box in front of an apartment building in the Altglienicke district of Berlin.

The toddler is said to have been thrown from the third floor of the building on Monday afternoon, according to media reports, probably by his mother. A police spokesman initially refused to confirm this in the evening.

According to his report, after the injured girl was discovered in an apartment on the third floor of the building, an adult was found who is currently being questioned. A homicide squad is investigating on suspicion of attempted murder. The 21-month-old girl is not in danger of dying.

There was another child in the apartment, about whom the police spokesperson initially gave no further information. This child was taken into the care of the youth welfare office.
