(Paris) David Gaudu withdrew Friday from the French Cycling Championships on Sunday in the Channel after a positive test for COVID-19 which comes a week before the start of the Tour de France.

“Positive for COVID-19, David Gaudu will not start the French Championship on Sunday and will focus on his recovery with a view to the Tour de France,” announced his Groupama-FDJ team.

Many riders from different teams have fallen ill in recent weeks in the run-up to the biggest cycling event of the year.

Gaudu has been the best Frenchman in the last two Tours de France with a fourth place in 2022 and a ninth last year.
