(Toronto) The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired former New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert as an associate coach to support Craig Berube.
Lambert, who is 59, compiled a 61-46-20 record as head coach of the Islanders.
He was promoted to associate coach after Barry Trotz was fired at the end of the 2021-22 season, and he led the Islanders to the playoffs the following season. However, the Islanders lost in the first round to the Carolina Hurricanes.
He was fired midway through the 2023–24 season, and was replaced by Patrick Roy.
Lambert, who is originally from Melfort, Saskatchewan, also served as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals (2014-2015 and 2017-2018) and the Nashville Predators (2011-2012 to 2013-2014).
He notably contributed to the Capitals winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.
Furthermore, the Maple Leafs have indicated that assistant coach Dean Chynoweth will not return to the team after a three-season stay.
Berube was named head coach of the Maple Leafs on May 17, succeeding Sheldon Keefe.
