Time change 2023: why do it at 3 a.m.?

Be prepared to adjust your watches, alarm clocks and other devices that won’t automatically switch to daylight saving time. The time change is scheduled for the end of March.

If your sleep is precious, mark your calendar for the night of Saturday March 26 to Sunday March 27, 2022. On this date, you will lose one hour of sleep. Indeed, when your phone displays 01:59, a few seconds later, it will jump directly to 3:00.

A change from GMT 1 to GMT 2 which will allow France to gain one hour of natural light each day.

The time change as we know it dates from 1976. It was set up in order to save money following the oil crisis of 1973. Moving forward one hour (summer time) therefore allows to “limit the use of electric light by bringing our hours when we are awake closer to the hours of sunshine”, indicates the site that interests me.

According to a study by the Environment and Energy Management Agency, this would have made it possible “to save on lighting, the equivalent of the consumption of around 800,000 households. But on a family scale, this represents barely 2 euros in savings on the annual electricity bill”, reports the site that interests me.

Still in this economic approach, the government has decided to set up this time change each time in the night from Saturday to Sunday between 2 and 3 am. The cause: at this time most people are sleeping, which therefore corresponds to the weakest economic and social period. Thus the transition from winter time to summer time or vice versa has hardly any impact on your daily life.
