The Texans have hired Baltimore Ravens helper David Culley for their next head coach, sources told ESPN, confirming a report from the Houston Chronicle

Culley, 65, who’s spent the previous two seasons in Baltimore, only completed his 27th year as an NFL coach. The Ravens finished the 2020 season rated in the NFL in death.

“David is only a genuine man,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh stated in a text into ESPN’s Ed Werder. “He’ll be who he’s regular. Has been that man every single day of his profession. I am thrilled . Good individual. Genuine. Full of energy”

Harbaugh had called the Texans’ launching a”great chance” and said he thought Culley”are a huge hire for any group, possibly, particularly, the Texans with Deshaun Watson.”

The Ravens will get two third-round compensatory picks (one in 2021 and yet another in 2022) to get Culley becoming hired by their own staff. This comes out of a resolution adopted in November that’s supposed to incentivize NFL teams to develop and employ minority candidates to get head-coaching and general manager rankings.

Culley will combine Robert Saleh of this New York Jets, Brian Flores of this Miami Dolphins, Mike Tomlin of this Pittsburgh Steelers and Ron Rivera of Washington as busy minority head coaches in the league.

He was also an assistant head coach for its Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to 2016 and invested the 2017 and 2018 seasons since the Buffalo Bills’ quarterbacks coach. After the Ravens hired Culley at 2019, Harbaugh said that the trainer was highly admired”as a teacher, both game-planner and incentive.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid told Werder that Culley is a”good man” and”very faithful.” He also added that Culley”will bring positive energy into the construction.”

After the Texans fired head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien at October, Houston became the first team having an opening for position. The Texans hired Nick Caserio as general director earlier this month and gave him the reins for their head-coaching search.

The Texans also interviewed Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley until he had been hired from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Amid the Texans’ coaching search, sources told ESPN the Watson wasn’t content with the procedure the company used to employ Caserio. And sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that no matter whom the Texans hired as their next head coach, Watson’s need to be traded wasn’t predicted to alter.

The Texans are coming off a 4-12 season, one where Watson played the best soccer of the NFL career.
